Pierced Tin Products
Pierced tinware was one of the few ways a tinsmith could apply their artistic skills to a product. Historically, pierced designs were applied to lanterns and panels for pie safes. Truth be told, there is probably more pierced tinware made in one week at this time, than in the whole of the 18th century. Nonetheless, it remains a very effective way to decorate tinware. The display made by light shining through the piercings is truly stunning.
The inspiration for our designs comes from several sources. One source is from originals we have had the good fortune to see and from photos. Another source of inspiration is quilt patterns. There is so much history behind many of the designs and quilt patterns also translate well into pierced designs.
