Punched or pierced tinware was one of the few ways a tinsmith could apply their artistic skills to a product. Historically pierced designs were applied to lanterns and panels for pie safes. The truth is, there are probably more pierced tinware made in one week at this time, then in the whole of the 18th century. Nonetheless, it remains a very effective way to decorate tinware. The display made by light shinning through the piercings is truly stunning.
The inspiration for our designs comes from a couple of sources. The first source is from originals we have had they good fortune to see and from photo’s of original pieces. Another source of inspiration is quilt patterns. Greg likes the fact that there is so much history behind many of the designs. Quilt patterns also translate well into pierced designs.
