Use with citronella tea lights to naturally ward off mosquitoes.
Erroniously called the Paul Revere Lantern, this is probably the most recognizable of all tin lanterns. The pierced lantern was used to carry the lit candle to places such as a barn or outhouse, so as to protect the flame. These lanterns had their origins in Europe. They remained quite popular until the proliferation of cheap glass made them obsolete. Tinsmiths used the pierce work to express themselves artistically, coming up with many designs. Our designs are based on these historical patterns.

The everyman sconce is a reproduction of a standard design used by several different Tinsmiths in the late 1800's.  Several of these candleholders would be spread out around a room to light a tavern or a workman's home. This unique lamp is a prime example of the tinsmith making an item to fill a customers need. A large D-shaped reservoir supports two burners located at the edges. The lamp hangs from a twisted wire.

A sconce of our own design. This sconce features a flat clean back with a scalloped top. When combined with a bobeche which is mounted on scrolled arm, a refined look is achieved. This a classic style of sconce. The top is derived from the French fleur-de-lis. The curved top deflects the heat from the candle, allowing is it to be placed closer to the ceiling. When one discovers the multitude of designs of tin sconces, one might conclude that no two tinsmiths made identical sconces. The designs ranged from the very simple with just a rectangular piece of tin ton the very complex with leaves and mirrored glass. Typically, tin sconces were used in taverns, churches and meeting halls -- anyplace where diffused lighting was needed. Today, they make great accents to rooms containing antique furniture. They are particularly useful for decorating hallways and stairways or displaying in pairs on either side of a fire place.

Our designs are based on these historical patterns. This candleholder is a reproduction of a novel idea.  The pattern for making a large tin scoop is used to form all of the tin pieces. However, the handle is soldered to the side of the scoop -- not the bottom -- and a candle cup is soldered on the interior.  This creates a portable candleholder that reflects the light and protects your hand from its flame.
