Square Lantern

When glass became available to the village tinsmith, lanterns took on a more cubic shape. This design would give off more light, but would cost the village tinsmith more in time and material. A hinged door on the side of the lamp allows access to the candle, while holes at the top and bottom of the lantern allow the candle to burn while the door is shut.

General Store Lamp

Because of the substantial amount of light that the large shade is able to reflect, this hanging lamp is one of our more popular pieces. The solid wire hanger holds a tin font kerosene lamp that can be easily removed to be re-filled or cleaned.

Pierced Lantern, Medium

Erroniously called the Paul Revere Lantern, this is probably the most recognizable of all tin lanterns. The pierced lantern was used to carry the lit candle to places such as a barn or outhouse, so as to protect the flame. These lanterns had their origins in Europe. They remained quite popular until the proliferation of cheap glass made them obsolete. Tinsmiths used the pierce work to express themselves artistically, coming up with many designs. Our designs are based on these historical patterns.
