Also referred to as the "Cottager Lamp", this kerosene light can store a large amount of fuel to feed the flame. We make an assortment of different shades that mount on top of the glass hurricane globe to reflect the light downward on your desk or nightstand.
The outward taper of this lamp gives it an exceptionally sturdy base to support the handle and the large concave reflector.

Because of the substantial amount of light that the large shade is able to reflect, this hanging lamp is one of our more popular pieces. The solid wire hanger holds a glass font kerosene lamp that can be easily removed to be re-filled or cleaned.
Erroniously called the Paul Revere Lantern, this is probably the most recognizable of all tin lanterns. The pierced lantern was used to carry the lit candle to places such as a barn or outhouse, so as to protect the flame. These lanterns had their origins in Europe. They remained quite popular until the proliferation of cheap glass made them obsolete. Tinsmiths used the pierce work to express themselves artistically, coming up with many designs. Our designs are based on these historical patterns.

We use an antique hand tool named "The Tinner's Press" to raise the lid of this lamp. Its handle is re-enforced with wire so it can support a full load of kerosene.
A Pietersma Tinwork's favourite! This piece consists of a large base with a pierced shade. The pierced shade is designed to sit on top of the chimney. The large base holds a lot of kerosene for hours of use.

When glass became available to the village tinsmith, lanterns took on a more cubic shape. This design would give off more light, but would cost the village tinsmith more in time and material. A hinged door on the side of the lamp allows access to the candle, while holes at the top and bottom of the lantern allow the candle to burn while the door is shut.
